How to score a government as successful or bad.

"Delivering good governance is not rocket science." - Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

The performance rating of every government is measured by its achievements and how well it has affected the lives of the citizens of the country it governs. In present-day Nigeria, you may have to get a dictionary or get enlightenment to understand the performance rating of the government, since big grammars, professional terms, and statistics are what is tendered to show or rather hide their failure as a government.

Fortunately for those whose knowledge capacity cannot understand and discern these statistics and big grammars, these are the simple basic measurements for rating a government as good or bad.

*Food (including the provision of drinkable water).

*Shelter

*Clothing

*Security (of lives and properties)

*Affordable Healthcare

*Education (qualitative and affordable or free).

These six mentioned above are the core and primary provisions a government should put in place for its citizens to ensure their physical, emotional, and social well-being. They are tools for minimising economic hardship and harshness of poverty, These six should be relatively cheap, available, and affordable for all at no neck-breaking prices.

These six are the primary measures that a good government must ensure are not lacking in provisions for its citizens at all times. They also as provisions provide jobs and boost the economy locally. The provision of food increases the capacity of the agricultural sector, while also providing jobs. Housing as well encourages manpower and attracts local and foreign investments. Clothing increases and boost the local textile industry. Security improves the rule of law and reduces crime rate. Education provides jobs and improves lives, while healthcare sustains the mental and physical well-being of human capacity and resources.

For a country like Nigeria which is plagued by so many problems, such as mass unemployment, shortage of power generation, accessible and good road network etcetera, the government scorecard would be rated excellent if the mentioned provisions are put in place. But for any reason and under any circumstances, a layman can only admit the average performance of his/her government only with the abundance and uninterrupted provision of food, shelter, clothing, security, education, and healthcare. Any performance short of these needs is a total failure and bad governance.
